About this Journal
My name is Ram Lama. I am a cartoonist, illustrator, and moralist. I strive for professional skill but eschew the professional race: I would rather come in last and be healthy than die trying to come in second. I would rather have a low paying job and eat than starve for a vague chance at a career.

I eschew ideals; by definition, they are perversions of the real world. I eschew Ambition; no amount of accomplishments will ever satisfy it.

But to see something created or to see something grow and thrive- those are things I embrace. This journal is my map. It's my Path- a tangible path of growth.

I started this journal several days ago with a vague idea of how it would work.  Roughly, the journal would be divided between different interests through judicious use of the Tag features.  Right now, my tags  are as follows:

General for news releases and official information about my activities; kind of a catch-all collection for things that affect my amateur and professional projects.
Personal for posts about my personal life; minutia, trivia, and TMI.  Rough drafts and other things that are less polished.  The broom closet of the journal.
Game Design for game theory, game rules, and Actual Play reports.  Posts will include misc. games, as well as my big projects.  Right now, that'd mostly be Path of Journeys.
Sketchbook for semi-daily sketches and images.  Some will be portfolio ready, some will be experimental, most will be at least interesting.  This will also be the repository of comics.

Some tags that I'm considering include Reviews (self-descriptive), and Links/News for information that I'm basically copying and pasting.  I might do a Memes tag for those annoying online tests, but I'm wanting to avoid it.  I might also do an Occult tag, and and Essays tag might come into play.  But the above four are pretty concrete- for now.

The current plan is to have my personal site function as a complex navigation bar.  For the most part, instead of having individual pages, the website will have a frame that either links to tags or individual entries.  For example, I'm expecting to create a backdated entry that doubles as a Portfolio page, as well as a backdated entry that has information about commissioning artwork.  Stuff of that nature.  I'm not sure how actively

It'd be true, except for the implication that I'm a journalist.
Snap, yo! I just pwned myself.

The Fall semester of 2008 is beginning on Tuesday, so I'm going through my list of things to do while I still have Winter Break in my favor. There are a few things on the list. Most won't get done, and I'm ok with that. But there's one big item. Bold, underlined, highlighted. It's the one I've been neglecting all winter break, and one that, given half a chance, I'll continue to ignore indefinitely:

Make a personal website.

So, I'm a professional cartoonist and I want to be a freelance illustrator. Even better, I'd like to get some more steady gigs- maybe do some self-syndication and get my political cartoons published in some alternative newspapers. I have a website for my current fiction project, A Chance In Hell (http://achanceinhell.smackjeeves.com). I also have a website for my professional non-fiction project, Illustrated Ramblings (http://illustratedramblings.smackjeeves.com). I've even considered getting the archives of the Magnet Manga up- and maybe both volumes of Weekend Comics (if Mason is cool with it). Y'know, for the sake of being historically complete.

But still, no central website. Nothing that I can put on a business card and say "This is where to find me."

This is where to find me.
